YOUNG SINGING STARS IN LOCAL CONCERT
Yilin Hsu-Wentlandt & Anthony Moreno at AMUSE
AMUSE Music Center, in partnership with the Pennyroyal Players, is delighted to present two young rising vocal stars in concert on Sunday, May 5, at 4:30 p.m., at AMUSE. Yilin Hsu-Wentlandt, mezzo-soprano, is a graduate of Pomona College in neuroscience and of El Camino College in music. She was a 2011 Mu Phi epsilon and Los Cancioneros Master Chorale Award recipient. In 2012 Ms. Wentland endeared audiences to her “Mother” in El Camino’s Amahl and the Night visitors. She holds a professional position with John Alexander Singers and Pacific Chorale in Orange County, with whom she performed in Paris. Additional performance highlights include Mahler’s Symphony of a Thousand with Gustavo Dudamel; Andrea Bocelli; Reba McEntire; and Taiwan folk star Tai Chao-May. Ms. Wentlandt also sings in musical theatre and cabaret.
Anthony Moreno, baritone, began studying music at El Camino College and performed solos with the College orchestra, choir and chorale. He also sang with Ars Nova Sinfonia, under the direction of Dr. William Doyle, in Austria and Italy. Now a Bob Cole Scholar at California State University, Long Beach, he made his opera debut there in Jules Massenet’s Cendrillon as “Pandolfe” and was the baritone soloist in Brahms’s Ein Deutches Requiem. Mr. Moreno was recently honored with the Torrance Performing Arts Consortium’s “Making a Difference” award and with first place in the Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions for the District of San Diego, as well as an award at the Western Regional Finals.
This performance, one in a series of AMUSE Musings Concerts, exemplifies how businesses and organizations in our community can work together to support music education and young musicians. AMUSE is honored to partner with the Pennyroyal Players to present this performance by Ms. Wentlandt and Mr. Moreno. Kenner Bailey will be the accompanist/collaborative artist.
